How do we look beyond the grave? What is there beyond the grave that we can be certain of? What does “beyond the grave” look like? These are questions that most humans don’t spend much time thinking about or trying to answer.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:19, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” (KJV) If this is true for Christians, what about the lost? This life is full of trouble, as Job describes it; Job 14:1 “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.” This leaves us knowing that life here on Earth is quick and filled with trouble for those few days. After those few days, it is the grave. Beyond the grave is something else. But WHAT?
That all depends on how we lived those few troubled days on Earth. There is something beyond the grave—heaven and hell. If we gave our lives to Christ and lived for Him during those few troubled days, the **what** will be rewarded with eternity with Jesus; however, if we did not make Jesus the Lord of our lives and lived however we wanted, the **what** will be eternity in damnation and hell.
In essence, how we spend our time on Earth determines how (and where) we spend eternity. Eternity encompasses past, present, and future. Time is an element that God extracted from eternity and created for humans to live within. It is used to function in order, with purpose, and through seasons. Once we die and are laid in the grave, “time” will cease for us, and we will begin living in eternity. Not that eternity did not already exist, but that we were given “time” to accomplish what is required of us by God in this life.
So, the point is that since there is something beyond the grave, let us live in a way that allows us to receive the positive reward awaiting us “beyond the grave,” which is LIFE WITH JESUS CHRIST FOR ETERNITY.
